Insurance Companies
Car accidents are unexpected and extremely scary. You don’t have to go through the process alone. After an accident, there are multiple different entities that are involved. These entities include: auto insurance companies, health insurance companies and medical providers. From the very start, our office will take care of all the communication with these numerous entities while you focus on your physical and emotional recovery.
Also, legal counsel can work to help ensure that relevant evidence remains available. For example, there may be traffic camera or other surveillance footage of the accident scene, but these videos are kept for a short period. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation only keeps videos for 72 hours, unless a person makes a request to preserve a particular video. Video of the accident that may have been captured through a camera used by a local governmental entity or business will also typically be automatically written over by newer video after a short time. Additionally, the insurer of the person responsible for the accident should be reminded as soon as possible of their duty to preserve all evidence related to the crash.
Why you should not wait to hire an Attorney
Once you’ve been in an auto accident, liability insurance companies are not your friend. When you are not at fault for an accident, liability insurance companies will reach out to you immediately in hopes to negotiate a settlement that is a fraction of what your case could be worth. It is important that you do not speak with any liability insurance adjusters after your accident. Liability insurance companies will always try to hold you accountable for a percentage of any accident, whether or not it was your fault. Don’t put more stress on yourself at such a difficult time when an attorney could be assisting you and providing you with representation.
Utilize your Auto and Health Insurance
Your insurance premiums will not increase when you are in an accident that is not your fault. You pay your auto and health insurance companies to protect you during these hard times. Using health insurance to pay your medical bills after an accident maximizes the recovery you receive from the at fault insurance carrier after your claim is settled. If you have any questions regarding your insurance policy, call the number on your insurance cards for more information.
Injured in a car accident?
Often, immediately after you experience being in an auto accident, you are in shock. It is important to get medical assistance or get checked out at the scene of an accident to confirm if you need more medical treatment. Once the initial shock of the accident wears off, you may find yourself in more pain, anywhere from hours, or days after an accident. It is important to set up an appointment with your primary care physician and plan a future course of treatment.
Keep track of your treatment and lost wages
To ensure that your case is not delayed in any way, it is important to keep track of future appointments and prior treatment you have received and to keep your attorney or paralegal up to date on these dates as well. When we know that you have appointments, we will make it a priority to follow up with you and see how your treatment is progressing and how you are feeling. If you need to miss time for work related to the auto accident, YOU NEED to get a note from your doctor along with letting your employer know the reason you will be missing any work. Insurance companies may disregard any lost wages from an auto accident if you do not provide a doctor’s note.
The process
Our firm does not rush the process of any auto accident case. We do not get paid until you do. Depending on the injuries involved, the length of cases can vary greatly. But we will keep you apprised as to the status of your case as it progresses, and are available to answer your questions throughout the process.
